Over one week, we journey with Christ from his triumphant, if a bit quirky, entrance into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey on Palm – Sunday, to his death on Good Friday, before emerging into the light of Easter Sunday to celebrate Christ rising from the dead. You and your family are welcome to come to one, or any, of these services. To gain the deepest experience from this Easter, try coming to all or most of the services.
Children are always welcome at the services, and activities will be available to help with those moments when sitting still is no longer an option.
Each service has been designed to incorporate the use of movement and action to bring the Easter journey alive for us all, regardless of age.
Palm Sunday
We begin on Palm Sunday, remembering Jesus’ entrance into Jerusalem. The people were expecting a victorious Messiah King to save them from the Romans, but instead they got a carpenter on a donkey!
Join us at all three centres at the normal service times.
Maundy Thursday
Enjoy a meal with friends on Holy or Maundy Thursday, as Jesus did on the night before he was betrayed and arrested. We will start with the soup course on Thursday 29 March at 7pm at St Mark’s.
Good Friday
The mood will turn sombre, as we sit at the foot of the cross on Good Friday, 9:30am 30 March at St Mark’s
Dawn Service
As the sun rises, we shall warm ourselves by a fire outside St Paul’s in Whittington, listening to familiar yet ancient campfire stories that fill us with hope once more. Starts at 6am Sunday 1 April at St Paul’s.
Easter Sunday
We shall end the weekend on a high note, when we are invited to visit the tomb, with owers, to see what lies within. The answer, of course, is nothing – apart from some folded grave clothes, showing where Jesus lay. We shall decorate the cross with our flowers and rejoice that Christ is risen, and through him our sins are forgiven.
Halleluia! We will also renew our baptism promises.
Join us on Sunday 1 April 9:30am at St Mark’s
or at 10am at St Barnabas’.
